Camel Hair

Camel Hair

100% Pure Camel Hair.

2/14 Nm. 500g cone = 3500m.

Camel hair consists of two parts, the outer protective fur (guard hair) and the pure undercoat. The guard hair is course, inflexable and can be woven into cloth. It can be soften by blending with wool. The camel's pure undercoat is very soft and gathered when camels molt. An adult camel yields about 5 - 10 kg of fleece per year.

The fine down fibre of the Bactrian camel averages around 20 microns in diameter and varies in length from 2.5 to 12.5 cm. Due to its quality and scarcity, camel hair is used in luxury textiles.

Helpful Hints.

Although most camel hair is left as its natural tone of golden tan, the hair can be dyed and accepts dye in the same way as wool fibres. Hand wash or low wool wash.
